At Outdoor Afro, our strength is the efficiency with which we deliver on our mission and support those we serve. We’re proud of the standard of excellence we have developed thus far. To support the organization’s growth, we’re seeking a Part-time Social Media Manager to join our diverse and passionate team.

As a social media strategist and content creator, you will help drive original, storytelling video content across the organization’s social platforms – primarily YouTube, Instagram, and possibly TikTok – that reinforces the brand’s Black joy in nature and 2024 programming. You’ll work closely with the Communications Director as you help us identify our target market and grow our 172K follower base by developing content guided by research and analytics. The Part-Time Social Media Manager will also serve as community manager, moderator, and/or administrator for Outdoor Afro’s social media channels, groups, and pages.

As an ideal candidate, you have a passion for creating captivating content and using data to inform strategy and grow an organization’s social media presence.  You love the outdoors and have a strong desire to make an impact working for a not-for-profit organization.  You are creative, analytical, detail-oriented, and highly organized with a knack for visual storytelling.

  • Lead the day-to-day planning, scheduling, and publishing success of monthly and paid campaigns that attract and increase outdoor interests of younger followers, male participants, and our male volunteer leadership
  • Develop strategic social communication plans, which include platform recommendations, implementation details (placements, formats), success measurement, and timelines. Activate those digital blueprints in collaboration with Outdoor Afro’s Program Department and partnerships.
  • Work closely with the Communications Director to ensure campaigns are seamlessly executed
  • Create and place paid ad social media campaigns for Facebook/Instagram and TikTok based on approved campaign strategies
  • Use Outdoor Afro’s in-house tools to advance targeted strategies and execute social campaigns
  • Optimize campaign buys to ensure budgets are spent as effectively as possible each month
  • Partner with the Communications Director to develop in-depth campaign reports that outline insights on media delivery, engagement, creative, website traffic, attribution, and key learnings
  • Act as community manager, moderator, and/or administrator (solo or in partnership with volunteer leaders) for Outdoor Afro’s Facebook and Meetup groups and pages, growing engagement and audiences and ensuring community guidelines are followed

  • 3+ years of professional experience, with a minimum of 2 years of experience with paid social advertising
  • Proficiency with Meta, YouTube, X, TikTok,, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn that includes a clear understanding of each platform’s core features, as well as a technical understanding of each network’s advertising capabilities
  • Proficiency with both Business Manager and Ad Manager dashboards for all core platforms, including ad placement, budget management, pixel creation, offline event sets, and advanced reporting
  • Experience handling a media budget and developing insights based on campaign results
