Job Description

Kuali builds software solutions for higher education. We help our customers — colleges & universities — focus on providing a fantastic education to students by decreasing their administrative costs. We work in a competitive space, ripe for innovation, with users ready to be delighted.

Our Culture
As a company, we are guided by our cultural values:

  • Iterate to evolve
  • Cultivate openness
  • Act with accountability
  • Assume the best
  • Practice humility
  • Deliver amazing experiences

We work remotely, and have for years. Distributed work is in our bones, with a history of institutions working across state lines on open-source software for more than ten years. Our employees each work in the environment where they’re happiest, from Pennsylvania to Hawaii. We work consciously to create a collaborative and healthy remote work culture, and we travel to meet in person a few times each year.We feel it’s important for employees to come to work refreshed and ready for the week so we have a four day work week policy, Monday-Thursday.

Everyone should love their work.

Kuali has been voted a top place to work for 7 years by the Salt Lake Tribune. We also made Forbes’ list of America’s Best Startup Employers for 2020. Not too shabby. Most recently, in 2024 TIME Magazine honored us by naming Kuali to their list of the World’s Top EdTech Companies, ranking us #99 overall and #37 in the US.

At Kuali, we are committed to providing a welcoming environment where people of all races, gender identities, gender expressions, sexual orientations, physical abilities, physical appearances, socioeconomic backgrounds, life experiences, nationalities, ages, marital status, veteran status, military service eligibility, religions, and beliefs are included, valued and heard. Our belief is that a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion strengthens us as humans, as teams and as a company.

About the Role

We’re hiring a small cohort of sharp, confident college students to join our CapDB initiative — a strategic research project designed to uncover how colleges and universities use enterprise software and when they make decisions about switching vendors.

As a Market Research Intern, you’ll conduct short phone surveys with higher ed staff and administrators. You’ll gather valuable insights about the tools they use, how they feel about them, and when their contracts renew. You’ll also capture all calls using Fathom, a transcription tool that helps ensure quality and accuracy.

This is a research position — not sales — but it’s perfect for someone who’s comfortable talking to new people and curious about how big institutions make decisions.

What You’ll Do

  • Call institutional contacts (leads provided) and conduct guided surveys
  • Ask thoughtful, research-based questions about software usage and procurement timelines
  • Record and transcribe calls using Fathom (automated transcription tool)
  • Submit completed responses using our internal data collection tools
  • Participate in brief check-ins with your project lead
  • Maintain a respectful, professional tone on every call

What You’ll Gain

  • Experience conducting structured interviews and real-world market research
  • Exposure to enterprise tools and decision-making in higher education
  • Opportunities to contribute to strategic reporting and data insights
  • Professional training in phone outreach, data accuracy, and research ethics
  • A flexible, remote role that works around your class schedule

Who You Are

  • A current college student (undergraduate or graduate)
  • Articulate, inquisitive, and comfortable speaking on the phone
  • Organized, dependable, and respectful of sensitive data
  • Able to work independently and manage your time responsibly
  • Bonus if you’ve worked in a call center, fundraising, or peer research role before

What We Offer

  • A flexible, remote research position that fits around your academic schedule
  • Clear expectations and structured support — no guesswork
  • A chance to build meaningful real-world experience
  • The opportunity to contribute to a high-impact strategic project with a respected edtech company
