Who is Future Africa?

Future Africa backs exceptional entrepreneurs building African businesses that deliver outsized return and impact by solving the continent’s biggest challenges. We are a team of operators who have experience building and investing in businesses going from zero to billion-dollar scale. We develop distinct theses around key focus investment areas and work hand in hand with entrepreneurs from the earliest stages of company development till when they achieve product market fit and can attract growth capital.

Over the last five years across Fund I and Fund II we have invested over $10m in over 100 companies which have delivered strong multiples and returned over $9m dollars to investors in cash. In Fund III we are excited about investing in businesses accelerating Africa’s participation in the digital economy. The core thesis of Fund III is to fast track Africa’s role in the global digital economy. As such our investment activity is focused on building a strong talent pool for the digital economy, building digital and data infrastructure, consolidating fragmented supply and demand markets and building an environmentally sustainable economy – in short TIME (talent, infrastructure, markets, environment).

Our teams are based across Africa’s key startup hubs; Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa. Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a highly motivated and analytical individual who wants to accelerate Africa’s Future by building category defining businesses alongside exceptional entrepreneurs. You have a mindset that allows you to do whatever it takes whenever required until things that were once considered impossible are done. This role demands a high level of proficiency in Excel and financial modeling. You should possess a strong understanding of both quantitative data and qualitative evidence to evaluate investment opportunities and bring new insights to the team.

Job Requirements

We don’t have any strict requirements but here are a few elements we believe will contribute towards making a candidate successful in the role

● Prior work experience, preferably in venture capital, private equity, investment banking or management consulting

● Advanced skills in MS Excel and financial modeling

● Strong research skills and the ability to distill key insights from an array of information sources

● Interest in startup entrepreneurship and new technologies

● High problem-solving abilities, coupled with exceptional analytical skills

● Excellent communication and collaboration skills

● Ability to juggle multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and maintain a sharp attention to detail Job Responsibilities

● Conduct detailed financial analysis and build financial models to evaluate potential investment and venture build opportunities

● Carry out extensive research to understand new technologies and business models, and their applicability to our investment strategy – capturing notes during pitches, product reviews, competitive analysis, customer/user reviews, and analyzing various metrics (financial, customer, user, engagement, etc.)

● Collaborate closely with our investment team to provide insightful inputs into investment decisions

● Maintain and nurture relationships within the venture capital ecosystem to enhance our deal flow and entrepreneurs’ engagement experience

● Provide ongoing monitoring and reporting on our portfolio companies, which includes value add support where needed

● Ability to take ownership of outcomes and work proactively with minimal supervision How is Success Measured?

The KPIs will be accompanied by detailed quarterly operational targets (OKRs) and an annual 360-degree performance evaluation process which, next to the Investment Builds, also reflects the contribution to building Future Africa as a firm.
