Job Description
Are you an experienced accounting professional ready to take full ownership of a growing company’s books? Veta Virtual is hiring an Accounting Manager for one of our clients in the Roofing and Construction industry, including work on some federally funded projects. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong technical accounting expertise with the leadership and judgment to own outcomes, not just execute tasks, in a fast-moving construction business.
🔑 Your Role:
As an Accounting Manager, you’ll take ownership of the company’s accounting operations across residential, commercial, and federally funded roofing and construction projects. You’ll drive the close process, strengthen controls, and deliver the financial insight that helps leadership make sound decisions. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll own job costing, guide tooling decisions, and shape how accounting runs in a fully remote, fast-paced environment.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Owning the full accounting cycle for the company’s roofing and construction operations, including reconciliations, month-end and year-end close, and financial reporting delivered directly to leadership.
- Overseeing job costing and work-in-progress (WIP) schedules across multiple active jobs, reviewing for accuracy and surfacing profitability trends that inform leadership decisions.
- Owning percentage-of-completion revenue recognition and progress billing across residential, commercial, and federal projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Acting as a key financial decision-maker in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, balancing speed with accuracy and compliance.
- Leading the integration and optimization of external applications with QuickBooks Online to streamline accounting operations.
- Overseeing accounts payable/receivable, expense management, subcontractor payments, and vendor/client interactions, and resolving discrepancies before they become problems.
- Owning compliance for federally funded projects, including certified payroll and prevailing wage documentation — training will be provided if this is new to you.
- Reviewing and guiding the work of accounting support staff or bookkeepers as the team grows, offering coaching and feedback along the way.
- Partnering with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning.
- Strengthening internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures as the business scales.
- Leveraging tools such as QuickBooks Online, Slack, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Zoom, and Google Drive daily, with the opportunity to work with Bill.com, ClickUp, Gusto, and Ramp.
- Staying current on emerging technologies and AI applications, and championing the ones that make the accounting function more efficient.
✅ What You’ll Need:
Core Technical & Mindset Requirements
- 5–7+ years of accounting experience with U.S.-based companies, including experience owning a full-cycle accounting function (CPA certification strongly preferred).
- Proven success managing external stakeholders and cross-functional relationships, ideally from a public accounting, client-facing, or construction accounting environment.
- Strong knowledge of construction or job-costed accounting practices, with the ability to lead accounting operations across multiple active projects at once.
- A track record of making sound, high-stakes financial judgments in fast-paced, growing business settings.
- Experience reviewing or guiding the work of other accounting staff is a plus, even if you haven’t held a formal “manager” title before.
- Familiarity with federal or government-funded project accounting (such as certified payroll, prevailing wage, or DCAA-related compliance) is a strong plus — not required. The client is open to training the right candidate on these requirements.
Tech Stack Proficiency
- Essential: QuickBooks Online (QBO), Slack, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Zoom, Google Meet, Google Drive.
- Highly desirable: Bill.com, ClickUp, Gusto, Ramp.
- Experience integrating external applications with QuickBooks Online.
- Bonus: familiarity with construction-specific job costing or project management software (such as JobNimbus, AccuLynx, or similar).
- Awareness of AI use cases in accounting (a plus).
Soft Skills for Remote Success
- Full professional fluency in English (written & verbal), with the ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear guidance for non-finance leaders, project managers, and field teams.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across digital channels, with a habit of providing clear context in asynchronous updates.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented leader with excellent time management, organization, and independent problem-solving skills.
- High sense of ownership, sound judgment, and adaptability to changing priorities in a remote, fast-growing environment.
- Integrity, curiosity, and a strong bias toward action, with the confidence to make a call and stand behind it.
- To be considered for this role, you must be currently based in Latin America (LATAM) or Europe.
💼 What We Offer:
- 💸 Competitive salary in USD, based on experience.
- 🌴 10 paid vacation days per year, plus all U.S. national holidays.
- 💻 Fully remote role — work from anywhere with a professional home setup.
- 📈 High visibility with direct access to company leadership, and real room to grow as the accounting function matures.
- 🤝 A supportive, collaborative culture through Veta Virtual and our client.
