Job Description

Account Executives at Shopify own merchant growth. You find, win, and launch merchants onto the platform, then set them up to succeed. This posting spans every segment, from SMB through Mid-Market, Large, and Enterprise, and covers both direct-to-consumer (DTC) and retail selling. You own the merchant relationship from first contact through to a live, transacting merchant, creating value for merchants in a way that creates value for Shopify across both new acquisition and expansion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate your own pipeline. Self-source and run consistent outbound prospecting across email, phone, and LinkedIn to open new merchant conversations.
  • Own the merchant relationship end to end, from first contact through to a live, transacting merchant.
  • Run the full sales cycle: qualify opportunities, lead discovery, document merchant goals and pain points, and navigate the buying process with both champions and economic buyers.
  • Practice value-based selling by quantifying business impact and present clear return-on-investment narratives tailored to each merchant, not one-size-fits-all pitches.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a closing sales role, with a track record of executing in competitive environments and delivering results.
  • Strong comfort with outbound prospecting and operating in a high-volume sales environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to run an end-to-end sales cycle, from discovery through recommendation, negotiation, and close.
  • A consultative, relationship-driven style that builds trust quickly and uncovers real merchant needs.
  • Resilience and adaptability. You stay effective when priorities shift and conditions change.
  • Strong organization and time management across multiple opportunities without losing rigor.
  • Experience with a customer relationship management (CRM) platform and sales engagement tools.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with commerce and experience selling SaaS.

  • High agency: You default to action, take ownership, and don’t wait to be told.
  • Thrive in ambiguity + change: You stay effective when priorities shift, products evolve, and you’re building while selling.
