Why Central?
We’re on a mission to eliminate all business bullshit
Building a company is still way too hard. Founders still have to register in multiple states to run payroll, set up workers’ compensation, pay various payroll-related taxes, deal with intimidating government mail, update addresses across state filings, and troubleshoot with insurance companies.
Imagine a world where ambitious founders have more time to solve the world’s most difficult problems—from preventing medical mistakes in hospitals to building next-generation night vision to curing brain cancer. That’s what founders on Central are doing.
Currently, hundreds of companies run on Central, and we’re growing rapidly. We’ve raised a huge seed/A from YC and some of the best investors in the world (not announced yet, happy to share in private).
As a founding member, you’ll have a seat at the table and help Central scale to serve thousands of companies.
Our culture
Central is a high-performance sports team with an extremely high bar.
Here are our 3 core values:
- Think clearly
- Show high agency
- Craft magic
———
What you’ll do
- Be the go-to tax expert at Central – review, challenge, and improve the work being done by offshore providers and AI agents
- Own federal and state tax processes end-to-end: from client intake and planning to return prep and filing
- Collaborate directly with our clients (early-stage startups) to solve complex tax challenges and proactively reduce risk
- Work side-by-side with our Head of Accounting to ensure tax work fits cleanly into broader client workflows
- Partner with engineering to productize tax processes – spotting automation opportunities and designing how we scale
- Contribute to building a pod-based service model: tax and accounting leads working cross-functionally on a shared set of clients
- Stay close to compliance, filings, and process innovation – but step back to help shape the overall tax offering as we grow
Your skills
- 5–10 years of tax experience, ideally at a Big 4 firm or a tech-forward tax startup. Extensive startup experience preferred.
- Deep understanding of federal and multi-state corporate tax (especially for C-corps and startups)
- Strong accounting foundation – comfortable reviewing or jumping into basic accounting work in the off-season
- Experience managing or reviewing the work of junior preparers, offshore teams, or automation tools
- Comfort with tech – not just using tools, but helping define or build lightweight automations, workflows, and process improvements
- Excellent communicator – able to keep clients informed, flag issues early, and collaborate tightly with internal teammates
- CPA or EA required
What we offer
- Competitive salary and equity
- Comprehensive benefits: Medical, dental, vision, 401(k) – For US employee roles only
- Unlimited PTO and sick leave
- Remote work
- 2-4 off-sites per year
