Job Description

About Toptal

Toptal is a global network of top talent in business, design, and technology that enables companies to scale their teams, on-demand. With $200+ million in annual revenue and team members based around the globe, Toptal is the world’s largest fully remote workforce.

We take the best elements of virtual teams and combine them with a support structure that encourages innovation, social interaction, and fun. We see no borders, move at a fast pace, and are never afraid to break the mold.

Job Summary:

Are you a seasoned Program Management professional with a deep understanding of SDLC, Product Management, and Agile methodologies? Do you thrive in a DevOps culture where Continuous Delivery (CD) and Continuous Integration (CI) are more than just buzzwords? If so, you might be a perfect fit for our team.

As a Program Manager at Toptal, you will join a small, passionate team of delivery professionals who are dedicated to their craft. We are not just about getting things done – we are about getting them done right. You will play a crucial role in driving strategic initiatives that impact our entire organization. While much of your work will focus on Engineering teams, your expertise will also be invaluable in mentoring and coaching teams across other departments, including Legal, Sales, Operations, and Finance. You will help cultivate an agile culture and promote a strong delivery mindset across the board.

This is a remote position. We do not offer visa sponsorship or assistance. Resumes and communication must be submitted in English.

Responsibilities:

The following information is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or required skills.

  • Lead through Influence: Build consensus across complex multi-functional teams to drive desired business outcomes.
  • Mentor & Collaborate: Guide and support leaders across Engineering, Product, Legal, Sales, Operations, and Finance, helping them excel in Agile practices and ensuring seamless program execution. Mentor less experienced Toptalers in modern Agile concepts, values, principles, and practices.
  • Lead Strategic Initiatives: Take ownership of Toptal’s most critical programs, managing them from a holistic perspective to ensure quality, efficiency, and alignment across technical, commercial, financial, product, and legal dimensions.
  • Foster Continuous Improvement: Grow a healthy, collaborative, and continuously improving delivery culture by capturing, sharing, and integrating key learnings.
  • Support Planning: Work with teams to assess and determine the best methodologies, structures, and resources to achieve program goals. Support teams in planning by identifying dependencies, defining scope and schedules, and coordinating release planning.
  • Facilitate Decision-Making: Enable effective decision-making on project scope, timeline, quality, and cost changes.
  • Ensure Clear Documentation: Drive clarity and alignment through program documentation, clearly outlining tasks, responsibilities, and timelines.
  • Proactively Manage Risks: Identify and address bottlenecks and impediments to maintain program momentum. Communicate the program’s health, risks, progress, and outcomes to ensure transparency and alignment.

In the first week, expect to:

  • Onboard and integrate into Toptal.
  • Get familiar with our product portfolio and team structure.
  • Learn about the Program Management Office vision, mission, and ways of working.
  • Become familiar with Toptal’s product development process.

In the first month, expect to:

  • Take the lead of one of our engineering strategic initiatives.
  • Gain understanding of the Engineering and Product quarterly planning process.

In the first three months, expect to:

  • Gain the trust of PMO business partners.
  • Manage more than one program at a time while exercising discretion and independent judgment.
  • Begin evangelizing Toptal’s product development process.

In the first six months, expect to:

  • Share knowledge and experience with colleagues and help to foster a modern delivery culture across product and engineering teams.

In the first year, expect to:

  • Become a role model for less experienced colleagues.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • Experience: You have 7+ years of experience in program/project management, with a strong foundation in SDLC, Product Management, and Agile methodologies.
  • Leadership: You are a natural leader who thrives by seeing others succeed. You know how to pull with the team and inspire them to deliver their best work.
  • Technical & Beyond: You live and breathe DevOps, CD, and CI. You also have experience working with and mentoring teams outside of Engineering, helping them adopt better project management practices.
  • Holistic Thinking: You can see the big picture and synthesize how all the moving parts tie together to create a functioning program.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly growing company and handle a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a diverse array of contacts.
  • You must be a world-class individual contributor to thrive at Toptal. You will not be here just to tell other people what to do.
