Job Description

Eleven is a growth-focused content marketing agency recently acquired by two industry leaders, specialising in high-performing content strategies for global B2B brands, agencies, and digital publishers. Our team thrives on curiosity, collaboration, and a scientific approach to innovation, continually embracing new technologies like AI.

The Role

The Head of Editorial owns and leads the editorial function at Eleven Content: its thinking, standards, systems, people, and commercial outcomes.

This role defines how Eleven approaches content as a discipline, what quality means in practice, and how editorial work consistently delivers value and commercial outcomes for clients. It blends strategic leadership with hands-on oversight: setting direction, enforcing standards, and stepping in where it materially protects or elevates quality.

Today, this is a hands-on leadership role; as Eleven scales, it will evolve into a more strategic, systems, and team-building role. As part of the senior leadership team, the Head of Editorial directly shapes Eleven’s values, reputation, and long-term growth.

Core Responsibilities

1. Editorial Vision, Standards & Innovation

  • Own Eleven’s editorial philosophy, values, and market positioning, and translate those principles into effective editorial SOPs and practices.
  • Set expectations around quality, evidence, tone, structure, accuracy, and originality, and ensure they’re applied consistently across clients and formats.
  • Evolve standards and practices as the company and client base grow, collaborating with leadership on new products, services, and the role of AI in content production.
  • Develop frameworks, tools, policies, and resources that support Eleven’s production of commercially effective content, including around AI/LLMs.
  • Understand Eleven’s SEO products deeply and ensure editorial execution supports them without compromising standards.
  • Represent Eleven publicly, notably on LinkedIn, reinforcing editorial credibility and leadership.
  • Help establish Eleven as a recognised authority in editorial excellence.

2. Leadership, Team Development & Talent Acquisition

Editors

  • Lead and develop Eleven’s editor team through structured training, effective feedback systems, growth planning, and consistent performance management.
  • Oversee editor allocation, capacity planning, and budget management to maintain sustainable workloads, prevent production delays, and maintain profitability.
  • Strengthen editors’ ability to apply Eleven’s editorial standards confidently, consistently, and independently across clients, and to coach writers to do the same (notably during probation periods).
  • Shape the long-term evolution of the editor role as the company scales.
  • Oversee and refine over time Eleven’s editor hiring framework, ensuring it remains rigorous, fair, and aligned with evolving editorial and commercial requirements and standards.
  • Maintain a healthy pipeline of vetted editorial talent across key verticals and formats.

Writers and other suppliers

  • Contribute editorially to the hiring of writers, subject-matter experts (SMEs), and other suppliers alongside Account Managers, ensuring consistency and quality of assessment.
  • Ensure writers receive consistent, practical, actionable feedback from editors that leads to consistent improvements in quality.
  • Track writer performance trends alongside Account Managers and editors; collaborate to address areas for improvement.

3. Editorial Operations, Oversight & Quality Assurance

  • Maintain quality at scale, supporting editors and writers through training, leadership, and on-the-ground editing as needed.
  • Attend client onboarding calls to introduce Eleven’s editorial approach and quality standards.
  • Support the sales pipeline by, alongside account managers, relating realistic editorial and production team capacity and planning for future accounts.
  • Work closely with editors during new client onboarding to ensure standards are correctly interpreted and applied.
  • Step into editorial reviews, escalations, or complex client situations when quality, positioning, or trust is at risk.
  • Develop scalable quality-assurance mechanisms as team size and volume increase.

4. Commercial & Performance Alignment

  • Ensure editorial output supports partners’ commercial goals (e.g., conversions, lead quality, buyer progression).
  • Build understanding of conversion optimization, content performance signals, and editorial success metrics.
  • Collaborate with SEO and Account Management teams to interpret performance data and adjust editorial direction accordingly.
  • Help define “editorial success” for each client: not just rankings or traffic, but usefulness, persuasion, and outcomes.
  • Champion content that earns trust and drives action, especially for decision-stage and commercially critical pages.
  • Participate in sales conversations where editorial quality, positioning, or strategy is central to the buying decision.
  • Serve as a senior editorial counterpart for publishers, content-led prospects, and editorially sophisticated stakeholders.

What Success Looks Like

  • Editorial quality is clearly defined, widely understood, and consistently upheld.
  • Editors and writers are well-trained, confident, and accountable in client work.
  • Sales commitments align with editorial capability and capacity.
  • Content drives meaningful commercial outcomes for Eleven’s clients.
  • The editorial function scales effectively without sacrificing quality.

Experience & Profile

  • Senior editorial leadership experience within content marketing, publishing, or editorial-led agencies.
  • Proven ability to build, embed, and uphold editorial standards across teams and content outputs.
